• Corner joints: The four corners of an aluminum screen door frame are the first point of failure. Expansion and contraction from Florida heat cycles stress the miter joints over time. When corners separate, the door becomes rigid and mesh tension is lost.
• Spline channel: The rubber spline that holds mesh in the frame channel hardens and cracks in UV exposure. A hardened spline lets the mesh pull free at edges, creating gaps without visible tears.
• Hinge mounting points: Screen door hinges are typically screwed into aluminum extrusion. Over time, the screw holes strip and the door sags. Stripped hinge holes require a frame section replacement or aluminum sleeve reinforcement.
• Screen tension: Improperly installed mesh that was stretched too tight bows the frame outward. Improperly installed mesh that was too loose sags visibly. Both conditions indicate poor original installation.

Repair vs. Replace: When to Choose Each

• Replacement is typically the right choice when: frame corners have separated and cannot be re-staked, the frame is bent or bowed from impact, the door is a non-standard size that has been modified, or repeated repairs have not held.

Custom-size screen doors are fabricated to order for non-standard openings. Most South Florida enclosure and patio doors fall within standard sizing, but older construction and custom homes often require custom fabrication.
